Welcome to IONTU ECHO lab.
a hub of expertise specializing in the quantitative characterization of sedimentary processes within Source to Sink (S2S) Systems.
Lab Features
Our core competencies center around micro-XRF-core scanning (XRF-CS) and computed tomography (CT) techniques, with far-reaching applications in fields like Paleoseismology, Paleohydrology, Paleoceanography, Paleolimnology, and Paleoclimatology.
Research Fields
Our primary research focus revolves around the comprehension of extreme events, including earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and anthropogenic impacts. To address these challenges, we’ve pioneered the Joint Platform of High-Resolution Scanners. This groundbreaking initiative introduces ultra-high-resolution core scanning techniques, seamlessly integrated with advanced machine learning methodologies for the meticulous decoding of sedimentary records. This innovative approach, featuring CT for non-destructive, high-resolution 3D scans, synergizes with XRF-CS to deliver comprehensive structural and compositional insights. Beyond advancing our understanding of sedimentary systems, this cutting-edge technology finds practical applications in diverse domains, encompassing carbon capture and storage (CCS), oil and geothermal exploration, and material development.
Future Outlook
Our collaborative efforts extend globally, encompassing an array of study sites to unveil long-term, high-resolution event records. This invaluable knowledge aids in assessing future event probabilities and refining mitigation strategies. The transformative capabilities of our technology foster interdisciplinary collaboration, unlocking new research avenues spanning geology, biology, materials science, and more.
We eagerly welcome partnerships to collectively address challenges across various disciplines, working together towards a sustainable and resilient future.
